About Us

Introduction to the Fei Lung Kwan

Fei Lung Kwan The Fei Lung Kwan (Flying Dragon Society) is a National non-profit making Chinese Martial Arts Society that teaches traditional Kung fu skills and values to its students. The student age profile ranges from 6 to 80 years of age across both sexes. The art being suitable for a cross section of the community for the development of health, fitness, confidence and self defence.

All instructors are experienced black belts and live within the local community and all are fully insured and accredited as coaches by the Amateur Martial Arts Association. Based on a style of kung fu founded in the early 1800's, the Fei Lung Kwan has it's roots from Central China.

The Fei Lung Kwan was established in the UK in 1974 by Rex Jones a disciple of world renowned Grand Master Leong Fu. Rex Jones (now retired) has nearly 60 years of training/teaching experience in martial arts.

Patrick Barber - Master of the Fei Lung Kwan and a disciple of Rex Jones has over 30 years experience of training/teaching experience in martial arts. Master Barber has also trained under Si Fu Wong Wai Kuen in Hong Kong and Master Han Bin in Beijing where he attained a 'High Level Pass' in Qi Kung at the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Ben Peel - Chief Instructor and disciple of Patrick Barber has nearly 30 years experience of training/teaching and has responsibility for the day to day training of all senior students in the Fei Lung Kwan.

Fei Lung KwanThe Fei Lung Kwan endeavours through its training to instil a sense of responsibility in it’s students, where the family values of respect for one’s self and others is seen as an asset.

Monitoring and Evaluation

Standards of the students technical martial arts skills, and also general behaviours are assessed via continuous one to one and group coaching. Regular gradings and written tests ensure the student is learning the art not only to the required physical standard, but also comprehends the historical aspect of the art.

Regular feedback is provided to the student, and if appropriate, the parents of the student to aid in their personal development.
